GETTING STARTED
What do I need to become a Flight Instructor?
The requirements depend on the instructor certificate you're pursuing, but your path may include:

Hold the applicable Commercial or Airline Transport Pilot Certificate

Meet the applicable aircraft category and class requirements

Hold an Instrument Rating when required for the instructor privileges sought

Be able to read, speak, write, and understand English

Complete the required ground and flight instructor training

Develop proficiency in instructional techniques and the applicable areas of operation

Receive the required instructor endorsements

Complete applicable FAA knowledge testing

Pass the applicable FAA practical test, commonly known as the checkride

Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)

Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII)
